Lottery Process – how does it work?
Due to the overwhelming number of lottery registration forms received during the 2009/2010 school year, on February 12, 2010 at 2:30 pm the CSD board held a special board meeting to discuss and vote on new lottery procedures. They approved the implementation of a computerized lottery system to replace the lengthy hand-drawn lottery process.
This computerized system greatly improved the speed of the lottery, so we recommend that all interested parents/guardians arrive at CSD no later than 4:30pm in order to view the process. We will begin with 11th grade and work down to Kindergarten.
What if I have forgotten my number?
The first thing we ask is that you first check your email. With the exception of a very small few – all confirmations were sent via email when you registered your child. If you still are unsuccessful – you may email Pauline Carter. We respectfully ask that you email Pauline rather than call the school.
How do I know if my registration form has been received?
You can verify receipt of your registration form(s) on our website by using the unique lottery registration number issued when you registered your child.
I cannot attend the lottery, how can I find out if my child had been admitted?
Beginning at 12:01am, Tuesday, February 26, 2013, you can check your child’s lottery position on our website by entering their unique registration number when prompted. There will be a link located on our Home Page.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of registration forms received, LOTTERY RESULTS WILL NOT BE GIVEN OVER THE PHONE OR VIA EMAIL!! Those admitted the night of the lottery will be notified by mail and will receive an admit packet that will need to be completed and returned to CSD. Returning this paperwork in its entirety is critical as it will serve as acceptance of your spot.
In addition, you also have the option of stopping by the school and inquiring at the front desk during the hours of 9:00 – 11:00 am, on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 and any time during school hours after that between 8:30 am – 3:00 pm.

Multiple Birth Sibling Rule:
If multiple birth siblings apply for admission to a charter school and a lottery is needed under G.S. 115C-238.29F(g)(6), the charter school shall enter one surname into the lottery to represent all of the multiple birth siblings. If that surname of the multiple birth siblings is selected, then all of the multiple birth siblings shall be admitted. To learn more, please click here.
Proof of Residency: The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Division of Charter Schools, mandates that applications from out-of-state residents are not eligible for admission unless proof of North Carolina residency can be provided prior to the date of the lottery.
